Bomber Tryout Information

Tryout dates for the 2012 Bomber teams have been announced, including the date for a new Bomber 8 team, and the addition of a second Bomber 9 team. All tryouts will be at the Bomber Field in Somerset Park (CLICK HERE to see a map).

Bomber 8yo and 9yo – POSTPONED UNTIL THURSDAY
Bomber 8yo and 9yo – Session 2 – Thursday, July 7th at 6pm
Bomber 11yo - Wednesday, July 6th at 6pm
Bomber 12yo – Friday, July 8th at 6pm
Bomber 12yo FINAL tryout – Tuesday, July 12th at 6pm

Bomber-10 Classic

The rain stayed away on Sunday, and after a long day of great baseball, the Frozen Rope Black team held on to defeat the Lincoln Rebels in the bottom of the 6th and take the Bomber-10 Classic Championship.

The Bomber organization would like to thank all the great teams who participated, and all the volunteers who helped make the tournament a reality.

Good luck to everyone in state.

2011 Bomber-10 Classic Tournament This Weekend!

Time for the 2011 Bomber-10 Classic, which will be held this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (June 24th to 26th) at Bomber Field. This year’s teams include the Omaha Gladiators, Lincoln Rebels, Frozen Ropes Black, Lincoln Dominators, and of course, the Omaha Bombers.

Bomber 8′s Take 2nd in Tagge Tournament

Playing some great baseball, the Omaha Bomber 8′s took the runner-up trophy in this years Tagge Rutherford River Cities Invitational Tournament. After pool play on Friday and Saturday, the team headed into the Sunday bracket play seeded 5th. They first took on the Millard Elite and won 9 to 4, and then upset the #1 seed Pacesetters by a score of 11 to 7.

After coming back from an 11 to 4 deficit in the Championship game, they tied the Frozen Rope Tigers Black, but eventually lost the game 13 to 12.

Great job guys!!! We’re really proud of you!

Weather Strikes Again!

Someone forgot to tell whoever’s in charge of Nebraska Weather, that it’s BASEBALL SEASON.

The Bomber 10 game for tonight (Tuesday) with the Elkhorn Red Storm has been cancelled, and the weather guys are saying that the rest of this week won’t be much better. NOAA is predicting a 50% chance of rain on Thursday, with a high of 49 and wind of 10 to 15 mph, and another chance of showers on Saturday.

Really?

BTW… we just added a new NOAA Weather widget to the sidebar. Scroll down a bit and you’ll see the “gloomy” weather in all it’s glory!

Bomber Teams Having a Good Weekend!

It’s Saturday night, and the Bomber Nation can so far, feel good about the weekend. The bomber 8′s played Friday night in the UBA Tournament, and won 2 games. They play again on Sunday. The Bomber 11 team, playing in the Keystone Tournament, won Friday night 14-4, and two games on Saturday, 10-2 and 8-0. The bomber 10 team, playing in the Battle of the Borders, won their first game against Central Iowa All-Stars 8-3, and lost to the Iowa Rockies (last year’s #1 Iowa 9yo team) 8-7.

UPDATE (4/10/2011)

On Sunday, the Bomber 10′s won their first game versus the Hawks 5-4, and then lost the second game 3-1 to the Yellow Jackets. Overall, the team came in 4th in the tournament, and 2nd on the Nebraska side behind the Pacesetters. The Nebraska 10′s took the “battle” trophy this year, and Nebraska was the overall winner in the entire tournament (all age groups).

In addition on Sunday, the Bomber 8′s played a great game against the Pacesetters, but came up short losing 2-1. It looks like a new rivalry with the Pacesetters has begun! Should be fun, fun year.

A while back, a friend who knew I was into both baseball and videography pointed me toward a video put out by the 2011 TCU baseball team. He’d gotten a copy from a friend of the team, and was now passing it around to anyone who was interested. I actually let it sit on a flash drive for awhile, before watching it. Then a couple weeks ago, I rediscovered it, and boy, was I glad I did.

Not only is it a very well done piece, but the message it carries is PERFECT for our Bomber players. Now that it’s up on YouTube, we can legally include it here on our Web site. Just CLICK HERE to visit the Resource page, where you’ll see it at the top of the Fun Video list.

Bomber Field All Set to Go — Bomber 8′s take both games!

With a great turnout of volunteers, a wealth of shovels and rakes, and Tim’s formidable expertise in dragging, Bomber field went from pre-season dirt to “season-ready” in just 3 hours this morning. In fact, the Bomber 10′s had the first practice on the newly re-topped field at 1 PM, right on schedule.

A big thanks to all those who helped. Now it REALLY feels like the season has started.

And to make the day even better, The Bomber 8′s played their first games of the season against the Frozen Ropes at Al Veys field and took both of them! The won the first game 10 to 1, and the second by a score of 13 to 9.

Great way to get the season going guys!

Bomber Field Cleanup Day This Saturday

This Saturday, April 2nd, we’ll be meeting at Bomber Field to start (and hopefully finish) work to get it ready for the 2011 season. At 9am we’ll start dragging and prepping the field for new topping, which should make it over to the field by around 10am. Our goal is to have the field ready by the afternoon, so that the teams can start practicing.

For those who can attend, we’ll need rakes for spreading the topping, shovels for moving dirt, push brooms for doing the sidewalks, and wheel barrows for moving bags onto the field.

If you can make it down to to a bit of work, it would be greatly appreciated!

The Player Virtues

Michael and Karen Jonas were kind enough to send me a very insightful essay entitled “The Player Virtues“, and after reading it, I just had to pass it along to all of you.

The Player Virtues include:

Poise – you always have total control over your attitude
Focus - you always have total control over your mind
Heart – you always have total control over your effort
Sportsmanship – you always have total control over how you treat others

Following the details of the virtues, the author recites “The Gameplan“:

Get quality pitching performances
Play great defense
Find ways to get on base
Score with runners in position

The document concludes with an essay entitled: Baseball is a Game of Failure, which puts it all in perspective.

This really is a great read that everyone should download and take the time to go through with their player. One of the things the coaches, and especially Coach Jerry, are emphasizing this year is a BIG change in attitude from last year, and I think this document is right on target with what we are looking for.
